Use CCleaner. Other "full" registry cleaners either have you purchase it to remove the entries, or cause more harm than good. CCleaner cleans like 10 things that would be safe to delete. A smart thing to do is to not install something you'll delete down the road. Stick with the same thing, and after you clean your registry and you don't install and uninstall programs your computer will be faster. Also CCleaner is a 4 in 1 tool. Registry Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Start Up Manager, Add or Remove Programs. And also you can go in there and delete old system restore points. So it's like a 5 in 1 tool. Stick with CCleaner. The worse thing to do is to get something and possibly ruining your windows system. Other registry cleaners could delete stuff you may need, like entries for a program you haven't used in a while, then when you clean it, and you need the program, you won't be able to access it. And cleaning a lot of your registry could hurt your computer and make it slower. That's why I stick with CCleaner. And unless you absolutely know what you're doing, don't even mess with regedit, or other registry cleaners.

Also, CCleaner allows you to make backups before you delete entries, just in case something goes wrong.

Info from the website:
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

use common sense, don't delete everything a registry cleaner finds, some entries are obvious, others leave alone and add to the ignore list. Don't expect a registry cleaner to perform any magic, they can't fix anything. All they can do is delete information (you hope it is information you don't need). A corrupt registry can only be fixed by writing the correct information, and no registry cleaner can do that.

This has been a very controversial discussion over the last few years...
Some people say that registry cleaners are a waste of time while others praise them.

If you however choose to purchase one then you should look at the nice comparison these guys did:

First you have to know the reason registry cleaners exist:
You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is over bloated or with some errors, computer's performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors.

Then get the advantages that use registry cleaners:
You wont delete important things that will make your computer in trouble if you are unfamiliar with registry. The corrupt and unused entries will be remove quickly.

My proposal:
You'd better choose to use a professional registry cleaner like Ccleaner, wondershare registry optimizer, tuneup utilities, and so on. personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it's safe and stable to operating system.
