I would do a system restore and reboot. First make sure you save any needed documents and programs that aren’t basic onto an external hard drive.
You might want to scan your memory to see if it has problems. Your other option would be to reinstall Windows.
It could be many things – none of them diagnosable by internet. But 0 to 5 minutes sounds like an overheating problem. Check air flow and check the fans when it freezes. A bad bearing could stop a fan after a few minutes.
have you tried an spyware scan and an ad-aware scan? you really need an anti-virus on your computer, like Norton or Mcafee….
google ccleaner and download/install Reboot into "safe mode" by holding "F8" select safe mode boot up run ccleaner let it clean your registry and temp doc’s. sound like you got hit with the 2010 virus. Dont worry your not alone.

There are serveral causes which may lead to freezing.
First, It may be caused by poor heat dissipation. You should keep the monitor, power supply and CPU in good ventilation.
Second, you can take the memory out and then insert it back firmly.
Third, in common situation, registry problems can cause freezing. I used RegistryMum and feel it is good. You can have a try.
It can be many things:
Hard drive full;
Needs defragmenting;
too many programs running in the background;
update your untivirus program to detect latest virus attacks
