Open your task manager and see the program that is using up your memory. Check spool… something (if you tried to print something before but didn’t).

You might have a virus so scan your computer..

There are lots of factors that could cause it.

try disc defragmentor. run it on c drive. it shou;ld make thing run smoother. it takes about an hour so do it when ur out or not doing anything.

Do you mean RAM or storage memory?
If it’s a Windows computer you may have to delete some stuff, run a virus scan, defragment the hard drive, then run check disk.

I assume you’ve done a Disk Cleanup. If not, click the Start Menu, select help& support, and use search to find how to do that. It is easy.

on the programs..choose..system tools and then, PC restore, and/or disk cleanup, and/or disk fragmenter. If that does’nt help..hold F11 button when your computer starts, this will restore PC to original condition (when you first got it). But make sure to backup everything important, cause its all gone forever!! Thats what I do all the time.

-Defragmenting your computer’s hard drive will help– just make sure your memory is above 15 percent filled, your computer. If there’s less than 15%, your computer WILL slow down (I know you said something about this not being memory, but I figured I’d mention it for kicks). If you haven’t defragmented your computer in at least a 2 months, now might be the time to try
-Making sure you do NOT keep 3 or more programs up and running when your on. I discovered that sometimes there are programs running that you don’t know they’re running and can’t see. Limit 2 up and running programs at the same time. The less programs running at the same time, the faster your computer usually should be.
-Adware can slow your computer down (like adware and certain plug-ins on your internet browser)
-Do a virus scan– viruses can slow your computer down
-Make sure your computer is fully updated
-Make sure your computer is NOT getting too hot. When my processor gets too hot, my computer slows down a bit.
-Make sure your cookies, offline website data, cache, internet forms, downloads, search history, page history, etc are all deleted and wiped clean– sometimes when (for example) your offline website data and the computer’s history is continuously saved, it will build up over a few months after lots of use which can slow down certain programs like web browers a tiny bit (from my experience)
-make sure you restart your computer once a day. I discovered that when I left mine on for days at a time without shutting down or restarting, it would get a little slower over time.
-You could try upgrading your RAM to like 4gigs or get a new motherboard/new processor– core duo processors are fast (you might only have a single processor)

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space.Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"

First, backup all your data to an external medium.

Then, if you have no hardware problems, do this:

(1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner. Get free editions of Avast or Antivir. Use the latest virus definitions file. But don’t install or run more than one anti-virus at the same time.

(3) Ensure all Microsoft security updates are applied.

You do not need to clean out the registry or mess with the registry in ANY way whatsoever. Deleting a wrong key from the registry can damage your operating system.
