It has be virus or corrupt registry.. Scan with some other anti virus software to check and use Reginout to see how corrupt is your registry.
You need to install drivers for all your yellow device manager entries.
Find the name of each item. Search for the latest driver for XP on the Dell site or with a general search and install the latest driver.
The order might matter so you may want to contact Dell to find out the proper order.
If you can find your Express service code or your service tag, you can get all of your drivers on the Dell site in one place for free.
