Yes, go for it if you want to totally corrupt your computer, it’s a good idea! Lol. There are freeware softwares that do it for you. Windows doesn’t have any Registry Cleaner yet. So you must download:

These links will give a list of free Registry cleaners with download links. I disadvice you Comodo Cleaner as I read a letter from a user on a PC magazine who lost important Windows files and corrupted his PC! I had some issues with Wise Registry Cleaner and CCleaner that deleted registry entries and I couldn’t restore them. But that was 2 or 3 years ago. So maybe now it’s better?

Do not do it on your own. Get a good registry cleaner such as Reginout to work for you.
You can use "regedit.exe" (C:\Windows\regedit.exe) to manually go through the registry and fix any of the errors that are inside it yourself. However, this is not recommended at all. The registry is a very important part of Windows and if you so much as damage / delete one wrong setting inside it, you could have your computer running extremely slowly and unable to boot up.
You can download a free registry tool called CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com – which will clean some errors. However, CCleaner is really not that effective to make your PC run as fast or reliably as possible. It does not have the ability to find & fix many errors inside your PC.
The best registry cleaner is one called "Frontline Registry Cleaner" which you can download from http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/best_registry_cleaner_tools.html – this is the most effective tool we’ve used.
