first back up everything you think you need from your computer. next you will need the gateway microsoft xp home edition system recovery CD/DVD i have an old computer from gateway and mine came with the CD. i would stick CD in the drive and quickly make the computer restart once you see the gateway boot screen hit F8 repeately. it should boot right into the system recovery mode, or you might have to make it boot from the CD.. once there follow screens make sure u do the destructive method, cause thats when it wipes out everything and install windows fresh.. it should boot up faster again, just make sure u install Avast and then do all your windows updates.
SImply boot from your original install media. Yes, it will restore the original Windows’ speed.
