put computer into high performance from the power options. clear some programs and other softwares you don't need too. other than that, you gotta upgrade your hardware (i.e. processor and ram, hdd too).

Try doing the following .
1 . Check the programmes and applications that start up when you start the computer. remove the unwanted ones from the list. ( you can do from registry key also )
2 . clear the recycle bin and temp files / folder.
3. remove unwanted files from desktop and move to some other folder.

If it still donest speed up enough , the you may like to invest in RAM

First off...I'm going to smack the next idiot who suggest CCleaner as a end-all solution. CCleaner does little to NOTHING to improve system performance...it just deletes old files on the HDD that probably weren't doing anything wrong in the first place. How would you like it if you where just chilling there and somebody came along and deleted you??

1. Press the windows button + R. Now type in MSCONFIG. Click the "Startup" tab and disable all the crap you don't use.

Most windows users slowly accumulate a bunch of programs that startup with the computer, but are entirely unnecessary. Windows Messenger, auto-updaters, Java Quick Start, Soundcard Control Panel...all this stuff is useless, and can be turned off.

2. Do a Malware scan. Everybody looks for viruses...but hardly anybody looks for spyware. And the sad truth is, spyware is MUCH more prevalent than virii. So, go to www.malwarebytes.com and download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Do a full system scan, and clean all the results.

Hell...that's all I'd suggest doing. Turn off the crap, and delete the garbage. No need to defrag, scandisc, reformat...whatever stupid $hit people are going to suggest by the time I've finished typing this.

Trust me...as a 15+year computer user, these are the big two culprits.

And sure...if you wanna upgrade your RAM, it won't hurt. 2GB on an 3-year old system is probably more than adequate.

Edit: I hope you realize that folks like LEO... are people you should NOT listen to. That guy has absolutely no clue of what he's talking about.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY: GETTING RID of: files, pictures, ads OLD documents etc. that you rarely if ever use !?! Also you might want to check & get rid of mostly jUnK mail fairly often !! Because you never know when or how fast jUnK mailings or files can pile up slowing your computers performance down !?! & possibly having it cRaSh on you !?! ;-'{} ... Run disc scans I guess once every two weeks !?! & or defragment your comp about the same amount of times aswell !?!.

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.
Recommended: Run a Registry Scan http://make-a-computer-run-better.com Now to Detect Errors and Improve your PC’s speed instantly!

Hi,you can speed up your computer by the following methods:
1.run a antivirus software to scan your computer fully.

virus usually impacts the speed of computer.
If there is no virus, see the possible reasons that make computers slow down and solutions.

2.Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is too fat or with some errors, computer's performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors.

If you are not familiar with registry, don't remove files away from it and clean up it easily for you may delete important things that will make your computer in trouble. You'd better choose to use a professional registry cleaner, personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it's safe to operating system.

3.There must be too many programs start up automatically when you start your computer.Run a registry optimizer or cleaner to stop those unnecessary start-up programs.

4.Have you ever clean up your computer since you bought it? If the answer is never, I am sure that there are lots of junk files on it. Junk files is also one of reasons that will cause computer slowing down. You'd better delete them regularly.

2,3,4 can be realized by a registry optimizer.

5.If a registry optimizer doesn't work, add RAM or do a fresh reinstall of windows. Before you do a reinstall, please remember to back up.However, you should know that frequent reinstall is harm to hard disk.

6.Put programs on other drivers ,not C driver, because commonly C is for operating system. And defrag hard disks every 2 months.

Good luck.

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.
