first, you must realize that registry is really important!!
Registry loads at boot time, so applications use the registry entries more quickly than use external configuration files at startup. Microsoft designed the Registry to give applications a unified place to store configuration information. However, if registry is too big, it will consume a lot of system resources.
To optimize your registry, there are 2 ways.
The first way is to clean your registry manually. But it is with high risk to do this if you are not a registry expert. The wrong deleting or modification in registry will lead a computer crack. Click the "Start" menu button to open the Start menu. Click "Run" Type "regedit" into the text field and press "Enter". Access the many different entries in your Windows XP registry. It is separated into primary sections: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY_CURRENT_USER, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_USERS and HKEY_CURRENT CONFIG. Click the plus to find and delete entries in the registry that you know are either causing conflicts or no longer necessary.
The other way is to download a Registry Optimizer and scan your registry for free. If you are not familiar with registry, it is highly recommended to use Registry Optimizer.
Try using CCleaner, it’s free and works very nice: http://bstdownload.com/reviews/ccleaner-2/
or also Glary Utilities
dude try ccleaner

To ‘clean’ the registry manually, you will first need to open up a program called "RegEdit.exe". That will show you all the registry keys inside your Pc where you should go through them and fix any damaged or corrupt ones.
If you try this method, you’ll soon realize that it is not very effective or do-able… which makes it more or less a requirement to use a registry cleaner to do what you want. These tools scan through the registry and remove any of the damaged or corrupt files that are in there.
There are 100% free cleaners like CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) but these do not find many errors on your system because they do not perform such a deep scan. If you use a tool like RegCure (http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regcure_review.html), it will find a lot more errors and speed up your PC more.
