I got this little walkthrough with only two pages. It looks simple.

registry files are located in c:\windows\system32\config, copy the SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE and SYSTEM files. to restore them you would have to replace those files with older versions using some sort of bootable os like the windows recovery console or other rescue software
