If you really want a dedicated registry cleaner, Eusing Registry cleaner is free,and not overly aggressive. Absolutely free of all problems,or the potential for them,is just not a option with any registry cleaner. However both CCleaner and Esuing will allow you to backup your registry prior to cleaning. I find it not too aggressive in its cleaning of my registry and actually have been using it for over a year. I don't think it is wise to clean the registry too much.
