There are a few – the most popular being a tool called "CCleaner". This can be downloaded from http://www.ccleaner.com and is will be recommended to you a lot.
The only problem with CCleaner and most other free tools is that they are free for a reason – they are not designed very well and will not find the largest number of problems inside the registry. This is a big problem which can stop your computer from functionining properly and is where many of the "registry horror stories" come from.
Although it costs $30, I’d recommend you use a cleaner called "RegCure". This will find 10X the number of errors that most free cleaners do because it’s been designed professionally. You can read about it at htp://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regcure_review.html

Personally I would not recommend using a registry cleaner. Registry cleaners tend to present more problems than they solve. The positive effects of registry cleaners are barely noticable, if any.
