what diagnostic program? – CHeck for spyware and virues
good spyware utility Spybot Search and Destroy (be sure its by http://www.safer-networking.org the reset is likely spyware its self.
if its a legitimate diagnostic program trust it. if its not a spyware/virus problem its very likely hardware. without hardware to swap in and out to test it all you have to trust is the diagnostic. also, carefully re-seat the memory sticks and video card (if youve never been inside a computer then leave the CPU alone.)
be sure its off or unplugged
after taking the cover off but before reaching inside, touch metal fist (the case works its metal) you dont want static electricity in there it could cause damage
With memory issues one thing you can do that is commonly not done is use the disk cleanup utility to compress old and unused files so they take up less space.
To disk cleanup click start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup.
What experience I have with HP computers they tend to freeze up more than others unexplainably. If the problem persists and worst comes to worst you would have to format the drive and reload the operating system for a clean start.
If you can get it booted eventually, one thing that would help us is if you right click my computer > properties > advanced tab > settings button under startup and recovery. Then uncheck automatically restart and hit ok and ok. Turning that off will display the blue screen and an error message instead of automatically restarting your computer. That error message that comes up in the blue screen can be very useful in finding the actual problem. My guess though is that it is probably a bad stick of ram. If re-seating the memory doesn’t work, I’d suggest trying a different stick of ram.
