you can start by updating the drivers. to do this, right click My Computer on the desktop and click manage. then, click Device Manager. In the right pane, you will see various options, but the one you want is Sound, video and game controllers. open this option and dbl-clk any sound card entries you may see. There will be a tab labeled driver in this window. On this tab is a button to Update Driver. click that and accept the defaults. If this does not work, you may need to use the name of your sound card to search the vendors website for the appropriate driver. This should be located in their support/downloads section. Of course, this could all be unnecessary if all you need to do is reboot one more time, or check cables/media control settings/etc. let me know how it works for you!

i had the same problem when i tried to reformat a pc by myself.

do you have the CD that comes with your computer when you first bought your computer?

in the cd there are lists of drivers that you need to install. Audio is one of them. install it.

You might be missing the driver or the driver may not have installed correctly.

Have you tried windows update?

I'm not a computer geek, but had the same problem with no audio. Had to go to realtek website and install the driver from there. Maybe that would work for you.
