I just dealt with this problem a few days ago and I have XP and SP3 as well. Do not try to fix your registry keys on your own as it will make your computer unstable. Download a free program called "Advanced SystemCare". It’ll clean up your computer, fix all the issues, repair the registry keys and get rid of the trojans, malware, spyware, viruses, etc. If you use this program with Spysweeper and your usual anti-virus software w/built in firewall. You shouldn’t have any problems any more.

i suggest u buy a backup disk with at least 200 GBs of memory and windows compatible and make a back up of everything that u want from ur computer onto it (make sure they’re virus free first) than just restore ur whole system.

This is not exactly my area of expertise, but Ccleaner (which is not an anti- virus system) has a registry cleaner, but as far as I know, it is only used to speed up computers. It still might work though.

Well, to answer truly, Its impossible to find in the registry without knowing the virus which infected or spyware.

Anyway check

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Check Run and Runonce to see start up.

I use Auslogic BoostSpeed to clean up my registry. Try it out.

Best is to do a Reformat.

this is the main reson why there is no such thing as the best antivirus, because even if you delete the virus, the antivirus cannot restore your infected files. thus, it is always a good idea to have a backup of the whole drive. you can do this to a clean install using a backup software like acronis true image.

another good idea is to have the windows installer disc, so you can reformat and reinstall windows.

these 2 solutions are the easiest and cheapest ways to solve your problem than tweaking with the registry which can harm your pc.

I’ve opened up the e-mail. Need more info to help. In order to get you to the correct key I need to know information on the name of the infestation. Here is why. The registry editor supports a search function. So we need to be able to search for the related key. It is possible for me to construct a file to automatically take care of that. Also you will be able to inspect what is going on before you commit to the change. Basically once I know the infected key I create a notepad file with the key to be removed, then rename the file as *.reg. One double click and the key is deleted.

Hellboy2 has the best answer ever!! I have that same iobit program and it is a jewel. I haven’t tried spysweeper, yet. I’ll have to try that, as well. I couldn’t have answered your question any better that Hellboy2 did in my opinion.

Since System Restore won’t work, it means that the restore point files are infected by the virus.
Go to My Computer>Properties and turn off System Restore for all drives,that should flush out the virus from there.
Now go into Safe Mode and run Malwarebytes.
After you come back from Safe Mode, turn System Restore back on.
