I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop that’s about 2.5 years old. It has a 60GB hard drive, Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ 1.79 GHz, 448 MB of RAM.

Last week my laptop just started to lag when I type, like it takes anywhere between 1-5 seconds for the thigs I type to show up on the screen. This includes word processing, chatting, internet explorer, etc. Around the same time I also noticed that my laptop was taking 5-10 minutes to notice when I plugged things into my USB drive like my mouse, digital camera, or webcam. Since then, here are all the things I’ve tried to correct the problem.
-Do a system restore to a time a few weeks ago before the priblem began.
-Ran avast free antivirus software
-Ran antivir free anitvirus software
-Ran tweaknow registry cleaner
-Ran superantispyware free edition
-Ran malwarebytes anti-malware free edition
-Defragmented the hard drive
-Checked the C drive for errors using windows
-Deleted my temporary internet files
-Tried to free up space on my hard drive using the windows tools
-Went through the control panel and uninstalled any software I don’t use
-Went to the task manager and saw what was running and googled anything that looked suspicious, but I’m not very computer savvy so I’m not sure how successful this was.

I’m a medical student and this makes it VERY hard to take notes on PowerPoint during lecture. Everything is functional, but very slow and annoying.

I do online karaoke. I am trying to use my webcam to do this and everytime I start to use it my internet explorer crashes saying the file that caused the error is quartz.dll. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I am using a creative webcam NX and have downloaded all drivers including the new ones directly from creative’s sight. I have also done all necessary windows updates as well. I am perplexed as what the problem can be?

Hi, I have windows XP and my daughter was online last night. Somehow we got anti virus 2009 on the computer. I downloaded malware bytes and Ccleaner and I ran them both. They are both coming up as no viruses, malware, etc. and registry is clean.

However, when I try to get on Internet explorer it keeps coming out with either pop ups about anti-virus 2009 or it goes right to about:blank. I have read a lot of the other questions, but I can’t seem to find anyone that has the same type of issue.

I am fairly computer knowledgable, but not really experienced about going into windows explorer and changing or deleting things, so I am hopeful that someone might give me some ideas about what I can do.

Please, real help only. Thank you very much.

Explorer’ it starts to open my Yahoo homepage but stops before the page has loaded completely, then It says internet explorer has encontered and error and needs to close. I have tried everything including virus scan, registry cleaner, deleted history, etc, etc. Antone have any suggestions? (besides take the computer out back and shoot the dang thing)
I did system restore, and installed IE7, and that didn’t help.

Opinion : Well,it’s troublesome doing all these steps to maintain a clean computer, the worst is,when the user doesn’t know that his/her computer is infected. Cause not all harmful stuffs has Obvious Symptoms.

Anti Virus Softwares

Recommend Avira,Avast,Norton but not Mcafee,AVG etc.

*Avira highest detection rates, excellent scannings, but the free edition only contain anti virus protection.(Top anti virus detection rates)

*Avast, second highest detection rates, excellent Boot-time scan and tons of protection layers of shields (Much more overall protection, decent detection rates too)

*Norton 2009,i think it’s an complete overhaul version, the memory usage is superb low, extremely rare, since norton is known as system hog, Previous versions used too much unnecessary memory, slows computer down tremendously. The detection rates is good, not sure how much though. The protection is advanced type as stated. Can try by downloading the trail version(Lower detection rates but memory usage is quite low)

Anti Spywares freewares

*Spybot search & destory, protects system settings and so on(Must have)

*Spyware Blaster,an anti spyware layer of protection(Must have)

*Advanced systemcare 3,nice freeware of registry cleaner + spyware defense provided by iobit. (Though the free edition lacks deep scan etc,but still useful)

*Ccleaner
————————————–…
Excellent Anti Spyware Scanners *Not protection, unless you pay for it

*Ad aware 2008

*Malwarebytes

*Super anti spyware

*Of course, make sure you use the correct settings in every software you uses, common sense.

Reformatting

Use the detailed reformat instead of quick reformat, its much more effective but much more longer duration…it’s safer though.

Then re-download all the window updates from the microsoft website, and download an anti virus and updated it before you download any other softwares

Scannings

It’s best to scan things in safe mode, and use the folder option settings in computer correctly for scanning purpose

*shows hidden files and folders
*Un-tick hide protection operating system files
*Un-tick hide extension for known file types
*Turn off System Restore, some trojans tends to hide in there etc.

Obviously its to let it scan the whole computer or drive thoroughly. Scanning in Safe mode is quite necessary too,Safe mode is F8 key.
