I somehow caught a virus on my laptop(thanks to my little brother) and i used the smithfraudfix(used it twice before with no probs). I cleaned the registry in safe mode and rebooted the pc in normal mode. Starts with blank blue screen and takes about thirty minutes for icons to appear on screen. cant execute any programs or click on any icons. Do I have to reinstall windows again or is there a way i can get around to make it work? I have a sony vaio vgn1nb130 with 2 gb memory running windows xp media edition.

My computer is ridiculously slow. It has no virus, malware or spyware at all because I ran complete scan of antivirus, firewall and antispyware. I also ran the registry cleaner of lavasoft.

I use Avira Antivir classic, Comodo firewall, PC tools Spyware doctor, ad-aware and lavasoft registry cleaner for protection. So if there is no virus, malware or spyware then why is it still so ridiculously slow?

It is an emachines desktop which I purchased in April 2005. It still has windows xp. I am tired of doing computer recovery and re-formatting the hard drive.

I just did the recovery 2 days back. After recovery it is fast but then when 2 to 3 days pass, it again gets very slow.

I talked to emachines technical support and they say i have to add more memory. Why? Why must i add more memory when it is only 3 and a half year old computer?

Can a 3 and a half year old car, have so many problems? Then why PC’s fail after 2 to 3 years only?
i also added a performance enhancer named Boostkit. It is sold by mcafee.

Unfortunately the performance booster also failed. I realize my get wasted. This computer is almost in its grave now.

So every time I try to cut on my laptop it starts but this Start Up repair thing keeps popping up instead of going to my log in screen. It always ask would i like for windows to attempt repairs and I always click yes but it never gets repaired. After going through the same thing 3 or more times it goes to another screen that states "start up repair cannot repair the computer automatically" so I always choose to send the information about the problem. When I come off that screen i choose to always advance view advanced options for system recovery and support. I fill out all the info that they request (country, screen name, & password) and they give me the choices of: start up repair (which i automatically do and it gets me nowhere), system restore (which i do from this point but once i shut down my lap top then use it, shut it down when i’m done, and then cut it back on I have to go through the whole start up repair process over again, windows complete PC restore (idk what a backup image is), windows memory diagnostic tool (did it yesterday and it said there was nothing wrong with my memory), command prompt, and dell factory image restore (if i do this will it erase all my documents and things like music that i have already saved to my computer? seeing that it restores my system software to factory condition)

Please help!!! Idk what I did so hopefully one of you will help me!

20 meg and I feel like my computer could need a little boost to speed up as well. It is a Compaq 3300+AMD Athlon 64 processor with 512 MB PC3200 DOR SDRram memory, 250 gb/7200 rpm. I have done defrag, utilities cleaners,start-up cleaning.

For some odd reason, I was just playing a game, running at a fine 60 fps, when suddenly it slows to a meager 8 fps. And not just the game has been affected. My whole system has. It no longer plays audio or video files properly, instead it’s skipping alot and making static noises everytime I try and play them. I’ve tried system restoring, Defragging, Disk cleanup, Startup alterations, Registry Cleaning, and no malware, viruses, or anything like that is there, and none of it has worked. I’m at the end of my rope, here. What do I do?

EDIT: I’ve only had my com for 6 months, and I haven’t really pushed it all that much. It’s a Vista, with a 3.00 GB RAM, AMD Turion X2 dual-core mobile technology RM70 (2.0 GHz, 1 MB cache), and up to 1408 MB ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics HyperMemory. Maybe this helps some more.
EDIT: Well, I have over half my memory available, about 81.5 GBs. I’ve already done a registry cleanup, and there`s only 2 programs that start at startup. Used to be 4… Anyway, the only possible thing I think there’s left to do is reinstall Windows. Programs are slower, though. Like I said, my whole system has slowed down. Even when I download something, it`s slower, and I have high-speed internet. Even moving or copying programs to different spots is WAAAAY slower than what it used to be. A while back, I do believe this happenef to me before, but only visual effevts were affected, and not the speed of the com. I think it was cause of ‘Windows Silverlight’. So, I did a system restore, and everything went back to normal. This is different, though.
