In order to take a major standardized exam on my laptop, I am required to have a clean hard drive, with no data except what is necessary to write the exam. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to use software that blocks access to my hard drive while writing the exam. I really don’t want to lose all of my data and programs — is there a way to move the contents of my current hard drive on to an external drive? Or will I either have to erase everything or get a new computer? I am especially concerned about my itunes library, I have had difficulties after transferring music files between user accounts on my hard drive in the past. Thank you for your help!!!

windows vista problem?

i built a new computer. have a BFG GeForce 9800 Gt video card. have updated the drivers. but…. i still am getting the blue screen of death. its really driving me nuts. i have a registry cleaner and everything. updated drivers again. when i go to certain webpages. like the new verizon page www.droiddoes.com it goes right the the blue screen or starts over. im thinking my video card isnt getting enough power. its the BFG geforce 9800 gt. i plugged it into the motherboard. but cant find another slot for a power supply to go into it. i dont believe the card has a power supply meaning it only uses the motherboard to power it. any ideas?? thanks
roll back my card? what do u mean?

I’ve recently got a new computer, HP Elite Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz Desktop Computer. The day i got it, and got it all plugged in, it crashed. For the beginning it was fine, browsing internet, going on msn, surfing the web, etc. all of a sudden it freezes on me, the mouse works and so does the keyboard. however the screen wont let me do anything, therefore i had to manually shut off. I figured the problem was registry corruption. I tried reg-cure and was not able to run it for my computer had a Vista 64bit premium home edition. So i used CCleaner and all worked well. After a while, my computer freezes again, this time i left it idle, and it was in screen saver mode. When i moved my mouse to return to my desktop, the screen freezes and this time so does the mouse. After waiting a bit, i got the blue screen of death. So i turned it off again, and all.. To make a long story short, My computer keeps on freezing for no reason during web-browsing/doing nothing/screen saver/gaming/ etc. Occasionally i would get the blue screen of death, Sometimes from the freeze or for no reason. I have tried Registry clean up, and it still happens. Any tips from people who keep they’re Vista from crashing would help.
I dont believe its any virus or spyware.

I need some guidance on handling a problem I recently experienced through Best Buy. My mother took her computer in because it was acting extremely sluggish and freezing up. Initially they told her it was .99 for a diagnostic exam. Later in the week she recieved a phone call telling her to fix the problem they needed to run extensive diagnostics and repair which would cost an additional 9.99 because they found viruses. They took our the viruses and installed some childsafe software and the total came to 0. They then called and said they discovered it was actually a bad harddrive and it needed to be replaced (an extra 0). Since replacing the harddrive will completely eliminate the work they did previously, I am wondering what our rights, as customers are. She specifically asked if she it was cheaper to buy a new computer and was told her computer is good and should last about 3 more years. Should they have been able to diagnose the bad harddrive from the inital tests

My laptop is right now in a horrible condition. I get a pop up literly every minute. Atleast once a day my laptop just exits out whatever I’m on. My internet speed is about a third of what it should be. Now I don’t know if I should just go buy a new virus protection thing to get rid of all my laptop’s viruses, or is it too late for it and I should just save up for a new computer? Any advice on good anti-virus software?
