Very much at my wits end here. This noise is driving me bonkers.

I have restarted, closed every program, run virus checks, trojan checks, malware, spyware checks, cleaned my registry, restarted, haven’t added any new hardware or software and I still cannot figure out where this noise is coming from. If the speakers are off, simple – no noise. The time in between the sound varies, sometimes it’s 2 seconds and other times it can be 10 minutes. It sounds like a CHING, cash register or photo snap noise. Happens even when I have nothing open and just there @ the desktop. I know I’m not back doored so nobody has my webcam open and is snapping photos or anything like that. Anybody have any clue as to what this annoying god awful noise is? I can’t listen to anything (videos, music, etc) because the noise adds itself right in there just to bug the crap out of me! There is no noise @ startup, & yahoo, aim or any other messenger is not open and the noise still goes on. HELP!
No screensaver running and it does it all the time no matter what is open or closed, program wise. i have run every anti spyware program out there well …almost and i have no clue where this noise comes from. Was hoping someone else had this happen and could give me an answer.

my win xp does not play sounds (startup, you tube, wm player, avi, mp3 ect) but I can watch video. system restore does not help. I downloaded various codecs, checked speakers, volumn, but still no sound, can anyone help me restore sound to my computer ? thanks

now what I want to know is, is there a good program out there that will scan my computer for drivers and if I don’t have a driver or a driver is not updated it will find the best or most appropriate for the hardware and update the driver or install a better version of driver? I ask because I seem to not be able to get sound playing from my speakers, and i suspect it is either no drivers are installed or outdated drivers are on my computer because I just installed Windows XP a few days ago.
Now don’t forget that I said a free program, and to me free means 100% free, like freeware programs. I do not want shareware because most of the trials/demos only scan your computer to tell you that you have a problem(and why would you need a program like this if you don’t suspect there is a problem?), but then to fix it you must then purchase the program so only suggest freeware/free programs.

Computer Sound Cuts Out?

My sound intermittently cuts out. Running XP with Sound Blaster Audigy 4. Have tried other speakers. Same result. Sound card diagnostics reports all is OK. When sound goes off, may stay off for a day and suddenly start up again. I get audio through headphones even if no sound through speakers. Is there a way to tell whether this is a hardware or a software problem? Appreciate any help. Thank you.
