I had Windows Vista Home Basic (My computer is a Dell) and I was going to reformat because of a bad virus. My bro gave me Vista Home Premium so i used that and started the formatting process. When it finished, i played a game of solitaire and a notice came up saying that hardware acceleration is off (never happened before). When the game opened, the frame rate becomes very low. Im assuming that my graphics card isn’t working properly. I ran DirectX Diagnostics and it didnt detect my graphics card.
I ran Everest and it says that the graphics card is a Standard VGA (if memory serves from 30mins ago).

I bought this computer off ebay a while ago and the seller gave me the following Installation CDs:

o Cyberlink PowerDVD
o Dell Photo All-in-One Printer
o Dell Dimension Computer Software
o Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit
o Dell LCD Flat Panel Monitor
o Norton Anitvirus

I installed them all except the antivirus.

When I opened up my computer (risky for a noob like me :D), I saw three cards (i assumed one was a graphics CARD). I unclipped them and one says Dell Memory and the others have no name. Games were working for me earlier before i uprgraded.

How do i find the graphics card so i can update it?
Is there any other ways to fix this?

Help please ~ ty

I know i downloaded one on my old computer that basically scanned my running processes, startup programs, installed software, hard drive, registry, etc. It allowed me to modify the appearance of my PC (via system files) as well as control whats on the installed programs list. IT allowed me to delete and process of anything i wanted to as well as identified potential virus and spyware threats (And delete them whether they were or not), my computer has 2 gigs of ram but is TOTALLY clogged up and i need the program to just wipe all the crap off it from deep in the computer as oppossed to trying to get XP to do it. I believe the program was freeware, does anybody know waht it was, or one like it?

Hello, It may be a silly question, I just was wondering how do they get rid of a virus in the computers they clean, I know I use an antivirus program and scan my Pc, and if it finds something, the program will tell me what I wan to do with it, of course I choose delete. Is this the same process a computer repair shop uses?

I’m continuing this question I had, because I haven’t figured out.

I have gotten rid of a few virus, and spyware/malware stuff. Spybot, Adaware, and AVG have done their part. I installed Eusing registry cleaner … and it cleaned it up good.

I had this problem before I did these things, it’s the only thing I haven’t figured out the remedy to. Ok, it’s freezing at startup. IT was freezing both at start, and at shutdown. Now, I have run those programs and PC-Doctor 5 and it didn’t show anything wrong with the graphics, motherboard, etc. I did all the tests.

What do I do next. How do I determine what it is next?

Thanks, I’ll award an answer!

My windows partition on my macbook pro was playing up (unexpected restarts, blue screen of death then a restart, stuff like that) i tried using a file registry cleaner and it found problems with my registry every 5 minutes. This certainly wasnt due to a virus because i had antivirus software (AVG) and the only sites i went on were ones to get software such as skype and itunes. So i reinstalled windows, reinstalled all the games and all the software, just one day after the reinstall it gave me the blue screen of death again, any ideas? because im entirely out of them. 🙁

P.S. ive also tried to repair this disk both with the mac ‘Disk utility’ and after restarts windows starts a disk repair thing too, neither seem to have had any impact.
Thanks in advance any help is appreciated.
