AVG has a free version of their virus protection, and it does work. You can get from,

I had a virus in my laptop, and I downloaded this virus protection, I ran it twice and it cleared the virus. I went ahead after that and purchased the full version.

but if you want something thats a bit more in-depth with the scanning, searching, removal of viruses your going to have to download a program with a keygen. the keygen is often a trojan horse.
