I use AVG, Spybot, and Ad-aware on my home computer, and have had no problems. Just make sure you clear your cookies frequently, and run those programs at a frequency that would best match how you use your computer. And be careful what sites you go to. I also use Mozilla Firefox, that has a built-in pop-up blocker. It's wonderful - and it's a much better browser than Internet Explorer. Once you learn to tab-browse, you'll be flying through the net like never before - if you're not already doing that. I would think you are ok, then.
