Why did “Modify, repair, or remove” appear on my Windows XP Start Menu?
It showed up there during or after installing either Kaspersky AV 9 or Adobe Reader 9. Both packages were among the first software installed on a new Dell Latitude notebook. The next time I opened the Start Menu, "Modify, repair, or remove" had been added to the lower programs list immediately after "Adobe Reader 9".

It was probably installed during an automatic Windows update.
