empty temp files.
do a disk cleanup
U can insert more RAM for super performance and when adding more remember to add two sticks of it. for eg. i u want to have 2GB RAM better go for two sticks of 1GB RAM (2X1GB) = 2GB RAM because when u use two sticks then it will boost ur PC performance for about up to 40%.
U can also use programs such as CCleaner which is very very useful for speeding up ur PC, it deletes ur useless and unnecessary files to boost performance. GO to CCleaner.com and download it. It’s very useful!!!!
U can also use Ausologics Disk Defrag which is a good alternative to XP- inbuild Disk Defragmenter. it also gives u a delightful statistical report.
Instead of Registry fix u can use Wise Registry Cleaner which is one of the best registry cleaner.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out the articles listed here:

They cover various ways of improving your computer’s performance.
Try this website and click on cleanup 452.exe
This is a fantastic free program that will clean out the temp files etc. and will speed up your machine.http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=70
Also adding ram is the best bang for the buck this site will check your machine and tell you what it can hold and exactly what to get.http://www.4allmemory.com/
Delete temporary Internet files, get rid of unused or rarely used desk top icons, defragment your computer disc, add more memory
scan your computer 1 time a week
you should try adding more RAM. but nothing after 1 GB would increase the performance
Try stopping some startup programs, search ‘startup programs’ in Help & support center
do you have alot of startup programs running behind the scenes? run msconfig.exe and check under startup and see what you have all in there!
Adding more memory will make your system fly. The more memory – the better.
Also, did you scan for spyware?
Do not use "msconfig" to disable services, type "services.msc" in the Run box instead!
The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console (services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is disabling the service.
The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no reason exists to justify disabling "everything."
