The reason the computer gets slow is due to the registry files becoming corrupted, or messed up, in simple terms. These files tell the computer or laptop how to operate the software installed on the system. If any of these files get messed up, the computer is not sure what to do and this will really slow down the computer. The other scenario is where you download other software, screensavers, pictures, videos, or even music, and this will somehow change the settings on a registry file. When this happens, the original program that needs that file now has the wrong instructions in it. So, it will cause the computer to run slow, or in a worse case, crash.
You can speed up your computer with a thorough analysis and repair of your registry. The registry Scan will identify corrupt files, paths, and registry keys causing your computer to have errors and run slow.Go to http://www.registry-bot.com to download registry bot.It is the most advanced and comprehensive registry repair product on the market. It will speed up your computer and make windows startup faster.

do you use an anti spyware program?
try ad aware if not, you may have spyware, and if you deleted big programs without going through add/remove in your control panel, you may have removed valuable files.
Right click your C drive, / tools and do a check file scan
then go to windows live one care and scan your computer
I of course do not know why your computer is slow. but perhaps running these programs might make your computer feel a little better

I use a free one, I downloaded. CCleaner. I use it before I shut the computer down for the day. Just yesterday, I clicked on a link that someone had given along with their answer, here in Computers & Internet. Immediately AntiVirus 2009 popped up! I held my Power On button in for a count of ten seconds, and shut the computer off. Unplugged the ethernet cable, turning off access to the internet, waited 20 seconds, then turned the computer back on, and after Windows XP Professional loaded, I ran CCleaner. (I have two computers I run simultaneously on the internet. One for with Windows XP Pro, so that I can see what recent malware attacks will do to it, and also so that I don’t forget how to answer questions about Windows. One with Ubuntu 7.10 {Gutsy Gibbon}, because it’s a far superior Operating System. I have Compiz Fusion and Wine on it also)
Bye-bye Antivirus 2009! (Had this have not done it, I would have used MalwareBytes. The free version. Yes, I reported the answerer who gave this link! I have a few choice words for this ‘person’ that cannot be printed on here! However, I will say that they’re a SICK individual!)
Why all this info? To demonstrate one advantage of using CCleaner.
It speeded up the Windows computer also, after installing and using it the first time. Has kept junk off of the computer, and this computer continues to be pretty quick. However, I invite you to type CCleaner+reviews in your browser search bar. Look at the reviews, and judge for yourself.

Quick Tour of CCleaner:

2.Download page for CCleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download
(They ask for a donation for CCleaner. It’s a free software that has been developed by computer programmers. I have used CCleaner on my computer and several of my clientele’s computers. We have not donated. {Our BAD!} It continues to work great, has NEVER asked for a donation, and if an update comes out, it will tell you)
3.Click on the blue -> Download from FileHippo.com <-
You’ll be taken to the download page. CCleaner 2.13.720 is the current version. You will see this by the heading in the middle of the page. To the right, you will see a listing of all the CCleaner builds.(Versions) Click on the blue ->Download the Latest Version <- at the top right. A small window will pop-up. "Would you like to save this file"
Click on Save file.
After it downloads, it will be an icon on your desktop screen. I invite you to close all windows, and close the internet. Go back to just your desktop screen. Double-click on the CCleaner icon. It’s been a while since I have done this, (Two years), but you won’t see CCleaner. It will have something like CC.2.13.720.exe under the icon. I believe it’s shorter than that. You will know it when you see it.
Double-click on it. Follow the simple instructions. Just use the basic setup.
All of this looks complicated, from what I have typed here, I know. It isn’t, I’m just very detailed, and want to try to answer any questions you may have ahead of time, when downloading and installing it. After it’s installed, it’s REAL easy to use! lol!
After CCleaner has been downloaded and installed, and is running, you will see two icons on the left side of the page, that will be your primary concern. I suggest leaving the Options icon and the Tools icon alone. This changes the way CCleaner operates, and really is for the advanced user!
The Cleaner icon, and the Registry icon are the ones to use.
Click on the Cleaner icon. Go down to the Analyze ‘button’ at the bottom left, and click on it. Within a few seconds you will see fragments of leftover junk that is on your harddrive. This appears on the right side of the screen. Since this is your first time using CCleaner, it may take a few seconds. May take a minute or two, I don’t know. I have a 250GB harddrive, and it takes .000024 seconds now! Look at the junk that is listed. It gives you a brief description. You can left-click on each file fragment listed, and it will give you a better description. These are pieces of files that have been left behind,
(File Fragments), junk that Windows has left behind, cookies from each and every website you have visited, (Including this one), stuff that’s still in your Recycle Bin and hasn’t been deleted, and so on. You will probably have 300 to 1000 file fragments, and related! Maybe more!
When you are satisfied that this is just junk taking up valuable space on your harddrive, (Trust me, it is!), go down to the bottom on the right, and click on Run Cleaner. A small warning window will come up,
"Warning you are about to delete these files from your harddrive, ya-da, ya-da" It’s cool, say goodbye to this junk! Click on OK.
I used to check them. I did this for about a week. NEVER found anything, that didn’t need to go bye-bye!
Now go to the left and click on the Registry icon. Go down to the bottom left, and click on Analyze. See this junk?
Edit: Go down and click on Fix Issues. You can make a backup. It will go to your My Documents folder. I did this for a few weeks, then quit. There was no need!
Tip: After you have made your decision on whether or not to make a backup, another window comes up. I would click on Fix All Selected Issues. Otherwise, you are deleting one at a time, and you may have a few hundred!
