Man this must be so frustrating to have a brand new PC stuff up like this.
1. Could Windows Updates be the Problem?
If you were using the internet you may have had some of the latest Windows updates applied in the background automatically. These updates can cause problems for some software applications. Check the list of Windows Updates that may have been installed during that time. Not sure which version of Windows you have. If it is XP then goto Start–>Settings–>Control Panel–>Add Remove Programs–>Change or Remove Programs, and tick the "Show Updates" box. There you will find a list of updates and the installed dates. If the dates coincide with when your computer started to act up, then one of those updates may be the cause. You can "remove" individual updates, restart your PC and see how it performs. While removing updates is not fully recommended, it is one way to troubleshoot problems. You can always re-download the updates and have them reinstalled by using the automatic updates feature with Windows. If you have a Vista OS, then goto Start–>Settings–>Control Panel–>Window Updates–>View History.
2. Could Malicious Software be the Problem?
Another possibility is you could have an infected computer if your firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware were not configured and enabled properly.
Here is what you can try:
Step 1: Ensure you have a firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware running. Check to see if the Windows versions of these are setup and running or else use 3rd party products.
Step 2: Run the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to scan and remove any malicious items. You may also need to use more than one anti-spyware tool if there are some real deep seated nasties. Check out http://www.search-and-destroy-spyware.com for some options.
Step 3: Sounds like your Windows registry is also corrupted. You will need a registry repair tool for this. There are many to choose from but I have found Registry Fix to be one of the better ones. You can read a brief review and watch a short video at about it at http://www.slow-computer-fix.com.
3. Should You Reinstall Windows?
If you still can’t solve the problems, then you could just do a clean reinstall and re-configuration of the Windows Operating System and all your software applications and see if that resolves the problems. On the odd occasion, Windows may have been installed incorrectly and it needs be to reinstalled.
Also check out some of the useful resource below.
Hope these suggestions help you out. Good luck!
First, try start windows normally. If this can’t happen, Reformat your drive. Don’t reformat it yourself. Go to the store where you bought it and ask someone there where is the nearest Acer service center. WHY? It’s brand new and I assume it’s still in warranty.
you hard drive might be damaged
