the things that may cause your computer slow are viruses, incompatible hardware driver, spyware, malware, invalid entries in your registry.
but if you sure the problem on your registry cleaners, i suggest you to read a lot of reviews of the product. I found a good site for this with unbiased review, it takes from real users experience and review.
Best thing to do is to get a cleaner which has a BACKUP facility. This means that you can scan your PC (doesn’t do anything) to see how many problems there are. Then if you want to clean out all the problems, you can just backup your entire system and then fix them.
The best regitsry cleaner I’ve found that does this, is one called "RegGenie" – you can see what it does here – http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/reggenie_review.html
advanced systemcare at http://www.iobit.com
has cleaner and much more, and it is free.
A registry cleaner is a great tool for cleaning up junk files, but it won’t speed you up to anything noticeable. Also, if you let them delete the wrong thing, it could be tragic to your computer, that’s probably what they are talking about. You need to run some malware scans with SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes to make sure you aren’t infected, I bet they find some stuff that you didn’t even know you had.
As far as reliable registry cleaners, the only ones I trust are CCleaner and Advanced System Care.
