If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:
1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.
3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"
Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.
Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed
if you follow the tips.
Download an Antivirus program like AVG (its free), run it, delete any tracking cookies of viruses that might be slowing you down …
Download and Run CCleaner ..
If you want you can uninstall stuff you dont use anymore ….
Run Disk Defrag. (google AusLogics Disk Defrag) …
You can get more RAM (its cheap nowadays) … like $20 for a gig
go to the control panel/ click on performance and maintenance click on free up space on your hard disk let it calculate and let it run
also fro performance and maintenance click on the rearrange items on your hard disk to…. select disk c and click defragment.
Windows has a program called ‘Disk Cleanup’
Try running that, it should help you free up some space.
Alternatively, hard drives are really cheap now and you can get a lot of space for not much money. I suggest overclockers.co.uk or ebuyer.co.uk
You can easily use Add/Remove Programs for any programs you no longer need. You can also use a program like Windows Washer which will clean up any temporary, delete, cookies and other junks that can take up space in your computer and you can even add a wash to permanetely delete it. Sofwtware can help but manually does the job too.
Well you are sort of right. Once you have deleted an item the space that it occupied on the harddrive is marked as "Available for use". If nothing overwrites that space then yes technically the items are still there, however they have no effect at all on your "free space". If you go into "My Computer" and right click on the C: Drive and go to properties you can use the Disk Cleanup tools to help free up some space. Other than that try going to the add/remove programs under control panel and delete unused programs. In my opinion the best way to speed up the computer would be to reformat. Move all of your important data over to a USB stick and just reformat.
Email me at hinatakurosame@yahoo.com and ill send you a link for a couple very good cleaners/optimizers
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
This will allow you to uninstall programs you no longer use.

CCleaner does a great job off finding all the temp data etc and freeing up space.
