I got to the point that blue screen says:

Setup needs to copy windows XP files onto your hard disk. Select the folder in which the files should be copied.

\WINDOWS(command prompt)

To change the suggested location, press backspace key to delete characters and then type the name of the folder you want to install Windows XP

I’ve never gotten this message before and I’ve been trying to install this stupid thing for the past 3 days.

I think I’m close to opening the "genie"

Can any one help with this one?

To tell you the truth, I am frustrated with the "accelerating" programs that you can download from the internet and don’t work or those where it says "free download" and you end up with a screen saying that you need to purchase them.

Do I have a way to speed it up with what I already go in my computer.

I have windows xp professional. Many thanks!!!
I do have DSL
Hey Kudo! Should I delete IE 7?

I’m getting a laptop with Windows 7 for Christmas. I’m thinking about what virus protection I should get on it. Right now on my desktop PC with Windows XP I have 6 virus protection softwares. Avast Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Mircrosoft Security Essentials. I really don’t want that many on my new laptop. What would you suggest?

i also forgot to mention that since the new install the text on the screen and the screen resolution seems to be going a bit strange. Ive tried all the different settings like 800×600 and it doesnt help. maybe something to do with missing drivers?
Hey i recently came home and found that my computer wouldn’t boot up and got stuck on the screen before log in.

I refused to ask for help and pay money at PC world so after i few days i was able to get all my files from the harddrive and i did a clean install with a spare windows xp disk.

Since then ive found that i cant play games and my graphics card isnt showing up, i think the sound is messed up aswell. I used an xp disk thats not from my PC so it doesnt have the drivers and i didnt get a disk with my computer because xp was already installed

Can anybody give any suggestions on how i could get my drivers working again?

thanks

What I did to fix the issue is create a new profile and move my programs and files to the new profile. Everything seems to work but the problem is my computer is now very slow epesially when I am online. In IE7 when I click a link, it pauses for about 6-8 seconds before it even starts thinking. I tried re-installing IE7 but no improvement. I am not sure what to try next but I am considering doing a full backup of files and reinstalling windows completely. Will this even help?? Am I just screwed?? Is there an easier fix that I am overlooking?? I am running a Dell inspiron 1505 laptop with Windows XP an a Centrino Duo processor. 1 gig ram. Any insites would be appreciated. I looked into a registry cleaner but I would hate to spend the and find out that it did nothing to help me.
