I got to the point that blue screen says:
Setup needs to copy windows XP files onto your hard disk. Select the folder in which the files should be copied.
\WINDOWS(command prompt)
To change the suggested location, press backspace key to delete characters and then type the name of the folder you want to install Windows XP
I’ve never gotten this message before and I’ve been trying to install this stupid thing for the past 3 days.
I think I’m close to opening the "genie"
Can any one help with this one?

C:\ Documents and Settings
do a quick format of the hd before installing(it will delete boot sector) and it won’t ask you to change the directory
That screen is asking the location to which all windows os files need to be copied. If it is first time ur installing windows on a clean hard disk U can leave it as it is else give other drive letter
for eg d:\windows
Unless you desperately want to avoid installing Windows in the usual place, type <return> and accept the default.
Ok, i have gotten this screen almost every time, I just hit enter and let it do it’s thing!
MS sucks! Big time!
Anyway, don’t change the suggested location and just go "next". It’ll say that the file or folder doesn’t exist and ask if it should create one. Click "Yes". and go on from there. This should set it up for you.
By the way, I do hope that you know that Windows’ softwares can only be installed twice. If you’ve had to format your HDD and are installing it again, it just might not install at all.
In such an event, if you’re located in USA, you can call the Call Center and yell at them and they’ll generate a fresh product key code for you. If you’re not in USA and aren’t American, then God help you because MS won’t.
I’d suggest that you download and keep the free of cost Ubuntu Linux or Mandriva Linux; where Windows got it’s XP "inspiration" from and either run on double boot or migrate to Linux.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
