Ok,you are right.I also think that keeping a computer clean is more important than adding more ram to speed up a computer. You can check out fix-slow-computer.info ,maybe that can help you.
good luck!
run a defrag.Right click on your drive, and select "tools"it should be called Defragment or something. It will organize all your files allowing you to access them quicker.
Have you removed temp files, emptied the recycle bin and defragged the hard drive lately? Do you have too many fonts installed? Are there unnecessary processes running? Enough unfragmented space left on your C drive? Could you have (gasp!) a virus?
goto start then goto run
type in msconfig and hit ok
goto startup
click disable all and click apply
restart your machine.
It should run alot faster because you dont have all those running in the background.
maybe too many programs running automatically at startup,
-disable any you don’t really need.

Also you may want to disable (or set to manual) some services.

Did you try to clean your computer first?
Right click C:
choose properties
choose disk cleanup, after that
choose check disk(now), after that
choose defrag.
If so run a reg(registry) cleaner!!!
