To clean up a slow computer includes at least 3 parts: scan for virus, fix regitry errors, and defrag hard disks.
You can use registry cleaner to clean up your registry:http://www.disk-utilities.com/registry-optimizer/index.html#198 to download a registry optimizer. and then use a free registry defrag software http://www.disk-utilities.com/free-registry-defrag/.
Reason to to this:Registry loads at boot time, so applications use the registry entries more quickly than use external configuration files at startup. Microsoft designed the Registry to give applications a unified place to store configuration information. However, if registry is too big, it will consume a lot of system resources.
Use a disk cleaner to delete temporary files and junc files to free up your hard disk space.http://www.disk-utilities.com/disk-cleaner/
Use an antivirus software to scan your computer because virus is always slow down conputer: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?tag=mncol
Jusion,
This happened in my situation and I was almost to the point where I was going to buy a new computer.
Before I did that, I found this free scan at http://FixYourComputer.Org which ran and it wiped out all these little creatures that made my system slow.
In the end, I did not need to buy a new computer and save a bundle.
Hope this helps you,
John

Slow computers are a common symptom of not keeping your system fully optimized. There are literally dozens of little tricks and tweaks you can perform to speed up your computer performance. Whether it’s a slow startup or just a general sluggishness, you can fix the problem without buying a new system. I recommend utilizing a program that can perform many of these speed tweaks automatically. Scan your system for free with it at:
