Okay I know it sounds cheap, but this computer that I’m working on today desparately needs a scan. I’ve tried various programs that only fix half of the problems or none at all. IS THERE a safe registry cleaner that preforms a througough clean?

Personally recommend Perfect Optimizer.
Don’t get CCleaner – it doesn’t do anything. It just looks through your registry and finds the most files it can to make itself look good. It then tries to "clean" them and consequently causes more problems with your PC. Stay away from it….

Your best bet is to go to Microsoft’s one care live and do a full tune up scan.Messing around the registry with out any help can do Major harm.I know this first hand.The online scan will clean out registry crap that leads to no where,put files and folders back where they belong,defragg your hard drive and let you know what updates are missing.Then you can download CCleaner and use after surfing the net for better privacy.I did this last year with my XP and helped a great deal.
