My repair job did not require me to remove and reload Windows. However, the traditional recovery process was not working, so I used my brother’s OS disc (same brand and model as my computer) to reinstall damaged or missing components. I did NOT have to reinstall Windows. Anyway, my Live One Care immediately failed validation, and the most recent Windows update has resulted in aggravating popups and sign-on delays saying I’m a victim of software piracy. Upon contacting Microsoft, they gave me a choice – complete a list of details and requirments to prove that my machine is the original that had its own Windows OS, or pay them 0 to validate the software. I feel like this is a kind of extortion. THEIR system failed, I fixed it using the resources at hand, and now they want me to pay them for the work I did. It’s insane. Has anyone else had this problem?

well, your validation only lasts for so long on windows xp. in effect, it should stay valid while you have close to the hardware you had when you installed windows. after many hardware changes, it will ask you to activate it again. apparently something went wrong in your copy. My advice is to tell them what happened. You also could just reinstall windows and use the same OEM key, it’s good for activation many times.
Hope That Helps….
Um I’m computer illiterate so I can’t help ya there but why are you answering all of my questions? Is that something you normally do?
If its Windows XP don’t do the repair thing… Once i tried that and it din’t work fine…
Better than that if u make a fresh OS…
Thats my advice…
ok..
bye….
No. From here, I see a free Alternative.
Well i had the same problem when i did a REPAIR AS WELL, I Soon learned to use ONLY AND I MEAN "ONLY" The CD(s) That came with "**MY**" Computer to do the REPAIR Else I got an invalid Windows Error as well, And NO UPDATES are available either when you MIX repair cd’s of two different computers. Best to do A Full reinstall with the ORIGINAL CD that the computer came with or that you BOUGHT FOR IT…
