buddy just to for ur help im asking u two questions ? …
1 . does the new ram speed supports u r mother board
(capacity doesnt matter) every mother board got a
maximum capacity and a ram speed that supports …
or a few ram speeds … eg – if ur mother board
supports 2 gb max and 557 mhz , 667 mhz rams
then the rams u use in it must not reach the amount
of 2 gb … and the speed of the rams ur using
must be 557 mhz or 667 mhz …
2 . are u sure that ur older ram and the new
ram got the same bus speed
i said that there is a ram speed that supports the
mother board and also if ur using 2 or more rams
the bus speed
of each ram needs to be the same otherwise those
wont work properly or wont work at all … (the
capacity doesnt matter those can be 2 of the
512 mb or one can be 1 gb and the other 512 mb
or something like that what needs to be the same
is ur ram bus speed …)
—————-
by the way if ur mother board got two or more
ram slots those are named as in the order
of numbers … like if u got two ram slots
there will ram slot 1 (dimm 1) and the second
will be ram slot 2 (dimm 2) … the ram slot
one will commonly be the one thats near the
processor in most of the mother boards …
so if ur using two rams (needs to be in the
same speed) with different capacity lets say
512 mb (667 speed) and 1 gb (667 speed)
the first ram slot must be the one which uses
the lowest memory ram that means slot 1
should use the 512 mb and the second should
use the 1 gb … so remember that also …
is some of your ram shared with your graphics card?
In your spec I see that you have two slots…so try the other slot…boot up and watch the very first startup screen…Watch for the amount of RAM available.
Secondly you might have a defective RAM module.
Pull the new memory module out. See if that doesn’t fix it. Not all memory is compatible with all systems. Visit http://www.crucial.com to see if you have the right kind for your computer.
What was your RAM? I’m guessing you just took out one RAM chip and put in the new one?
You shouldn’t have to reformat unless windows tells you to. Then its only going to tell you this if you change enough Hardware, not software.
check your BIOS first and see how much shows up there.
You might try a different slot in your computer (for the RAM) and see if that changes it.
I guess it could be the type of RAM, but I doubt that.
i think your technician is dumb… your hardware is fixed and is separate from your software.. your software only uses what your hardware can give.. or in your case uses your hardware to the max all the time.. this could sometimes lead to hardware damages….. so you do not need to REFORMAT your PC to loss all your data and start back at the beginning…
try to look for the specifications of your computer with your computer and not depend on some websites you visit.. do this by: START BUTTON>RUN>typ "dxdiag".. and see your system information.. if u still see that your RAM is 256mb then:
OUT AND IN
try to remove your sdram from its designated slot and use a pencil eraser to clean your RAM by rubbing the eraser to the portion where it makes contact with your RAM slot… dont worry about the eraser thing coz its been proven and tested to clean your RAM… after cleaning but it back in carefully… if you dont have confidence in trying this, try asking that dumb technician of yours to do this..
CHECK YOUR RAM
check your sdram if it really is a 512mb sdram…
IF YOU HAVE AN ON-BOARD GRAPHICS CARD THEN CHECK YOUR BIOS
check your bios if you didn’t configured it yourself at the beginning, because your bios could have been configured so that your RAM will share some of its memory to your on-board graphics card.. meaning, it cuts off the memory of your RAM that is given to your on-board graphics card…
hope this answer your question……
