For god sakes reformat it.
Get a flash drive or disk and burn your files too save them
Don’t waist your time with repair disks
If you get a xp burnt disk from some one you will need a xp key
Same if you got a home version.
Problem is it will be registered in some one else’s name so at some point it will not give you the updates and fixes and security patches ex
If you only have a Windows XP home edition license, you must install Windows XP home edition. Getting the key he used wouldn’t help you unless you purchased that key. If you don’t have a license, getting a key won’t give you one.
For example, if I told you a key that worked to let you install XP Pro, would that mean you were licensed to use it? Obviously not — I could give a key to 1,000 people and they can’t all be licensed. So you most likely do not have a license and cannot install XP Pro.
That’s one BIG Question. Answer just reinstall
A key for XP Home will not work with XP Pro. You will either need to find a copy of XP Home to use with the key you have, or find the code for the XP Pro you have installed.
Download and run a free program called Advisor from hppt://belarc.com . Excellent program, it scans your PC and gives you several pages of information about both the hardware and software on your computer. One invaluable thing is will list is the serial number of any Microsoft product on your computer. This will include the serial number you need to reinstall XP Pro.
Once you have that number, you can use any XP Pro disc (including one downloaded through a torrent) to reinstall XP Pro.
