go to http://www.microsoft.com and get Windows Defender. You can also get Hijack This from http://www.majorgeeks.com and see what comes up. There are also many forums out there where people can and would enjoy helping you.
I had the winfixer and the only thing that got rid of it for me was webroot spysweeper. I downloaded a free 15 or 30 day trial..not a free sweep but an actual trial of the full product. It got rid of it for me when nothing else would.
I think that the companies who design winfix and such programs should be sued for extortion. Is it not like the old days when the mob would trash your bussiness and then say "Pay us and we wont trash your place"… what these programs who climb into your system and then say "Pay us and we will remove this." do?
try a virus scanner it should get rid of it. If you don’t have an up to date one you can try http://www.pandasoftware.com for a free online one.
go to download.com and download prevx1. It is an amazing antivirus software that will help you with the winfixer problem
If you do not like that pick up norton or macafee, they will work too
I would stick to using firefox, its a much safer broswer, I have the same problem
Winfixer is a program that can easily become installed on your computer even if you don’t want it. It’s basically pushed onto you beceause the sites that are doing the pushing make commission from every sale made.
Winfixer is modelled and marketed on anti-virus and anti-spyware/adware programs but unlike the legitimate programs it blows out of all proportion any risk it identifies. Whereas a genuine program might identify a minor risk and simply ignore or deal with it, Winfixer presents you with a warning that makes it sound like world war 3 is about to break out on your computer. The hope is that this will scare you into buying the fully functioning paid for version.
From what I’ve read of Winfixer it seems likely that it contains spyware, adware and other unwanted wares, read these reviews from download.com… http://www.download.com/WinFixer-2006/3640-2086_4-10508757.html?tag=tab_ur
There’s lots of tools available for getting rid of WinFixer and some are better than others. I’ve included a link below to PC World where you’ll find all sorts of spyware and adware programs reviewed… http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp
If you want to manually remove it the instructions can be found here… http://www.spywaredb.com/remove-winfixer/
With regard to the pop-ups you’re getting: programs that are installed on your computer can generate their own pop-ups and because they’re coming from your computer as opposed to the internet, they’re not stopped by pop-up blockers.
My advice is the same as that from those in the know – get rid of it.
