Do they actually do anything beneficial for the computer? Matt Rizos the security expert says there nothing but snake oil!
To Scermer: I know I promoted a registry cleaner in the past because so many people swore it worked wonders I fell for the scam! Sorry I honestly thought I was helping People not steering them into a scam!

Well i think both you and Matt Rizla are snake oils.
Just had a look through Rizlas Items for Sale in his hub
and there are links in there to that rubbish Regcure .
It’s a waste of time generally. Registry tweaks need to be done manually and carefully, else you might mess up things.
registry cleaners can be very harsh on your system if you don’t have a dr in computers and select exactly what you want the registry cleaner to do. this makes them look like they have no benefit or worse! but their not a scam.
filehippo website is a good place to get a copy of ccleaner (crap cleaner) this is very light and effective, you just click go no real knowledge required
well I have conflicting thoughts on this , CCleaner is a GREAT cleaner as is GlaryTools , and others I have used are nothing but junk. The idea of cleaning the Registry is a smart and proper thing to do , the uninstalling of software can and often does leave remnets behind
yes but its better if you dont clean your registry and do more updates
Wow! I’m in yahoo answers. Well you took the words right out of my mouth!
If you want your computer to run faster then you might want to check out my tutorial at

Hmm, it stinks, first of all you promote the sites and now "Wow! I’m here!"
To answer your question Grizzom, oops Obywon…Windows registry is closed source which means conventional registry cleaners would not be able to differentiate. It is effectively in my opinion, snake oils. The whole industry of registry cleaners was born out of dubious adverts of claims that it can improve the performance of your computers, there is no evidence to back that up.
The real performance ehancers are already on Windows, they are Disk Defragment, Add/Remove (for removing needless programs), Startup (again to remove needless programs from Startup) and Disk Cleanup. Use those, and you’ll find your computer performing faster. But in essence, registry cleaners will not enhance the performance of your computer.
Registry gunk can prevent some programs from installing, for instance, remnants from uninstalling AVG (and other antivirus or internet security too) that prevents Kaspersky from installing, but the irony is, registry cleaners cannot remove the gunk left behind like AVG, you’ll need AVG removal tool for that.
