Hi there. Using the net and answers from the Yahoo community, i’ve now got a perfectly formatted PC running XP Pro.
It’s got an;
300GB SATA HD (for XP and progs) (defragged all good)
1TB SAMSUNG SATA HD (for storage)
Intel Core 2 CPU 6600@ 2.4ghz (2 CPU’s)
Gigabyte motherboard 965P DS3P
4GB of Ram
SB Live 24bit (yeah, it’s crap i know, but sound makes me sad)
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800GTS 640mb
So everything should be hunky dory right? Time to play ma games right?
Wrong
this piece of crap can’t run my cool games properly, i mean, even OBLIVION stutters.
Call of Duty 4? 5 frames per second buddy.
In the meantime i’ve been playing freaking KOTOR, great game btw, but 5 years old!
so theres a problem, my awesome computer, runs like crap.
So my friends, help me before i just go out to the couch and turn on the PS3 and put my finger up at PC gaming forever.
i’d love if someone can point me in the direction of some diagnostics/benchmarking software so i can find the evil bottleneck! THANKS
And yes, i know i’ve asked this question twice
MUHAHHAAHAHAHA I’M BUCKING THE SYSTEM!
(star pls!)
my drivers are up to date, and i even tried playing COD4 at 800×600 so don’t talk to me about lowering settings!!!
😀

Sounds like you have a driver issue to me. You installed the system, then installed the cd for the mobo, right? Then installed your OS, and the 8800GTS driver cd? Then installed the 8800GTS? May be mistaken, but I believe the drivers for the 8800GTS should be installed first, then power down, un-plug, install vid card. Why? Because Windows has thousands of generic drivers. Install that vid card first, Windows is gonna’ try to match one up with it. Install vid card’s drivers after? You’ll have a conflict issue. What to do? You probably won’t like it. You have to ‘slap’ Windows around a little bit! (Naa! Not really, but didn’t it sound good for a minute? I was on a roll! lol!) Plus when you got that 8800GTS the drivers were probably old. Bet there’s a new version of drivers out. Go online, and see. Download it, and save it to your My Documents folder. Now go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, and un-install the Nvidia driver,(Just un-install anything that ‘says’ Nvidia) Shut down Windows normally. Un-pug the computer from AC source. Take out the 8800GTS. Press the power button in, and hold it for 5 seconds. Do this three times. (No, I’m not pullin’ your chain. Trying to reset CMOS,without taking the battery out.) Now plug the computer back in. Wait 20 seconds or so. Turn the computer on. Let Windows load fully. Install the 8800GTS’s cd for it’s drivers. Load the drivers. Run Windows for a few minutes. Check the ‘net out, check your email, whatever. Now close all windows, and shut Windows down normally. UN-plug the computer. Install the 8800GTS. Plug the computer back in. Wait 20 seconds or so. Fire the computer up, and when Windows is fully loaded, go to your My Documents folder, and double-click on the driver file you saved. It may be a zip file, so you’ll have to ‘Extract All Files’. If so, follow the directions. At the end, click on open. InstallShield Wizard should take you the rest of the way. Should ask you at the end if you wish to restart your computer. Yes, you do. When Windows has fully loaded again, give Oblivion a try. Then Call of Duty 4.
latest drivers? running to many programs at once try playing on medium settings
"awesome computer???", man most of people who i know have better laptops. You can probably not even maintain it.
But i agree with you, PS3 has good computing power and on Linux you can own people on quake engine based games.
