How to keep the speed of your computer at peak performance?
1.Optimize the hard disk to free up disk space and recoup system resources is the most effective way to get back the clean and fast disk space.
2.Use a powerful registry tool which comes with the best and most enhanced problem detection algorithm to clean up your registry.
3.Thousands of malicious programs and other information have integrated into your disk and system without your permission to smash your system dramatically. So, to update your security software regularly and daily.
4.Uninstall the programs you have never used and which you will no longer use.

You can add more RAM, but there are also some basic things to do with Windows to increase perfomance.
Menu Speed
When XP first appeared, there was a lot of conversation about the new interface, both good and bad. In spite of the initial complaints, most users stick with the default settings rather than reverting to the Classic interface found in previous Windows versions. But you might want to change the delay you notice when you click the Start menu. I see no reason for there to be any delay when I click the Start menu. Effects are pretty, but I wouldn’t click it ifI didn’t have business inside, so let’s get it open and get moving.
The default speed can be adjusted with a quick Registry hack.
Go to the Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay.
The default value is 400. Set it to 0 to remove the delay completely, but if you do that it will be nearly impossible to move the mouse fast enough not to activate All Programs if you mouse over it en route to your final selection. Pick a number that suits your style, make the
change, and then test it until you find a good compromise between speed and usability.
Place Windows Kernel into RAM
It’s a given that anything that runs in RAM will be faster than an item that has to access the hard drive and virtual memory. Rather than have the kernel that is the foundation of XP using the slower Paging Executive functions, use this hack to create and set the DisablePagingExecutive DWORD to a value of 1.
***Perform this hack only if the system has 256MB or more of installed RAM!***
Edit the Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\DisablePagingExecutive to 1 to disable paging and have the kernel run in RAM (set the value to 0 to undo this hack). Exit the Registry and reboot.
Alter Prefetch Parameters
Prefetching (the reading of system boot files into a cache for faster loading) is a commonly overlooked component that can have a significant impact on system boot time. This tweak allows you to select which components will make use of the prefetch parameters. To see which files are gathered using each setting, clear the prefetch cache located at C:\Windows\Prefetch and then enable one of the settings listed in this hack. Clear the cache and repeat for each setting.
Set the Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher to 0 to disable prefetching, 1 to prefetch application launch files, 2 to prefetch boot files, or 3 to prefetch as many files as possible.
Disable 8.3 Name Creation in NTFS Files that use the 8.3 naming convention can degrade NTFS drive performance.
Unless you have a good reason for keeping the 8.3 naming convention
intact (such as if you’re using 16-bit programs), a performance gain can be achieved by disabling it.
Set the Registry DWORD key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation to 1. Exit the Registry and reboot.

Most computers actually run slow because of a hidden part of your system, which is constantly being used by Windows. This part of your PC is called the "registry" and is the central database for Windows, which stores everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper. It’s one of the most important parts of Windows and can easily make your PC run slow. The more corrupt registry files your computer has, the more it struggles to read them. The files which makes it run slower and slower. To fix this, you simply need to use a registry cleaner http://make-a-computer-run-better.com . These are small software tools which actually work by scanning through the registry and fixing any bad files that are in there. This then allows Windows to read as many files as it wants, when it wants to.
Your speed of computer depends on the following first please check:
Present memory, you should have much memory left
CPU speed, it should be of higher speed
Does a lot of programs start when you turn on computer. If so try to run only that are important. Type a Run command "MSCONFIG" without quote mark then click Start Up tab and un check Programs you do not want to start at start up DO NOT un check if you are not sure then click OK.
Finally, Clear Browser History, Trash Bin or use disk clean then Defrag
After this if you have Video/Photos/Audios on Hard Drive make back up that will clear some memory.
After doing all above if you find you could add more Memory or even change CPU with higher speed do it(If you got Desktop)in case of Laptop just add Memory if possible.
By doing this you can speed up your computer.
I hope this answer will help you
Check and see if your computer is running with DDR2 RAM. If it is, the maximum you can get is 4GB is most cases. Run registry cleaners, malware spyware and viral cleaners to optimize your performance.
Don’t go Norton or McAfee like cleaners. They use way more RAM than Avast, AVG, IOBIT, etc.
add RAM
and run malwarebytes from download.com
it will find and remove any junk programs like spyware/viruses and speed up your computer in the process.
Run your disk fragmenter frequently.
Don`t save too many files or photos in your computer (either put them on disk or on an external storage unit).
Run diskcleanup at the end of sessions, frequently.
Download and run Glary utilities regularly.
Delete System32 folder, it’s just a bunch of useless junk
Make sure you have 2GB of RAM. Windows XP runs slower on anything less.
You can try upgrading your processor too. This would probably be the best solution.
You can also try putting in a second hard drive if your current one is anywhere near 80% of capacity.
Add memory
1. Delete any programs you never or rarely use.
2. Run the disk cleanup tool in accessories -> system tools -> disk cleanup
3. Defrag the hard drive
4. If this doesn’t help, consider purchasing more RAM.
That’s the easiest and probably cheapest way to speed things up a bit.
