I have been having sever data corruption issues with the game World of warcraft. i have run every diagnostic software known to me including checkdisk (windows xp sp3) Microsoft’s memory diagnostic tool and seagates hard drive diagnostic tool both windows and bootable CD versions and every diagnostic comes back squeaky Clean and ive even swapped my ram entirely. I have done a full system restore on my computer and i still cant get a stable install which leads me to believe i have a hard drive issue yet it passes every test. so basically my question is as stated above, is it possible for a hard drive to be going bad yet not fail diagnostics. If so is there any way to verify or at least gather further evidence that its the hard drive before i spend money on a new hard drive. (note it appears as if only world of warcraft is currently effected, i suspect its highly complicated file system is more likely to be damaged by a failing hard drive)
i have installed all patches and all blizz will tell me is its a hard drive issue or a ram issue. and it cant be a virus as i JUST reformatted my hard drive. i have also updated every driver in my system. and while its not a data coruption issue limewire shuts down when i attempt to preview a file

Have you patched World of Warcraft to the latest version available? I know that some people don’t do that, so that they can play on private servers. Make sure you’re at the latest patch.
Can a hard drive be dying yet pass all diagnostics? No, I’m relatively sure that it can’t, but I’ve seen stranger things in my life. Make sure that S.M.A.R.T. is turned on in your computer’s BIOS Setup. S.M.A.R.T. is a hard drive diagnostic built-in to modern hard drives. It monitors the hard drive in real-time and alerts you to any impending failures.
I think that your problem is actually with WoW, personally, rather than your hard drive, since nothing else is experiencing data corruption. Do you have any firewall running on your PC? If so, turn it off. Your firewall may be corrupting data. You may also have a bizarre virus that only affects WoW. I’ve seen stranger things. Finally, make sure that your DSL/Cable modem is a reliable brand that’s using the latest firmware.
If you’re still experiencing data corruption issues after you’ve gone through all those steps, then I’d contact the Blizzard tech support, your ISP’s tech support, and/or your Cable/DSL modem manufacturer’s tech support. They may be able to offer better solutions.
This is just a guess as I am not there to actually see the numbers is that your WoW disc’s or the downloaded file is corrupted, not actually from your HD. I would suggest trying to download the game and re-install it. Before doing that you should uninstall WoW using Revo uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/), this free app will get rid of all the registry entries that are left behind from the normal uninstaller. I also use HDD Health v3.3 (http://www.panterasoft.com/) which actively monitors all my hard drives and will alert you if one is about to fail. Hope this helps!
