only way I can think of is using a program that does so.
bitdefender does so for sure, but you gotta pay for that. Im sure there are some free ones out there.

it will get he junk out of your registry
You can clean your registry yourself pretty safely these days. Go to http://www.download.com and download TuneUp Utilities 2008. It is very helpful and it will automatically backup your data in case something does happen, but typically nothing does.
Within that program there are many useful tools for optimizing your computer, internet connection, and customizing windows.
