First you say that you have your recovery on another drive "D". Are you sure that in fact it is not a partition on your Hard drive, check that first because bootable killdisk will probably erase all of your hard drive which will include your recovery.
If you are doing this for yourself and not to sell on your PC then using killdisk is not really necessary.
Running any program within windows, Windows will not allow the drive with windows on to be formatted in any way
More than likely it won’t let you. If KillDisk is running on your C drive there’s no way it could wipe the C drive completely if the program is located on it. I have CCleaner and it doesn’t let me click the option to wipe the entire C drive.
The best way to run KillDisk is from a CD.
Download it and then burn it to a CD/DVD. Put the disk into the CD/DVD drive and then reboot the computer.
It will boot into a DOS type screen. Follow the on screen prompts and just make sure you select only the C: drive to erase.
NOTE: Everything on your C: drive will be erased!!!
So if you have any files such as documents, photos, songs etc. make sure you burn them to a CD/DVD before you run KillDisk.
I use KillDisk all the time if I have to rebuild someone’s hard drive. It is definitely the best way to completely erase a hard drive.
Hope this helps.
