The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.
Recommended: Run a Registry Scan http://best-way-to-improve-pc-performance.com Now to Detect Errors and Improve your PC’s speed instantly!

hi,if you use external hard disk it will not effect you computer speed, but it can slow your computer screen
i think.sometime USB hard disk can not increase your computer screen.so if you install your programs in that hard disk than you will see effect that your program will conflict sometimes.
your second Q-ya if your hard disk is full than performance decreases.so you have to use Ccleaner sometimes.
Putting things on an external drive *always* makes them slower to access. Any speed you gain from having more space will be nullified.
Get the maximum RAM for the laptop. The external harddrive does not come with a separate CPU nor separate RAM so if anything, it would slow down the performance. And get a laptop cooling pad and be aware of air getting to the bottom fans. Plenty of idiots will lay theirs on a bed or other soft surface which chokes air from coming in. You should save your work frequently during the first few days of use. If your laptop overheats it will immediately shutdown and you may end up losing your work.
You should have about 15% of free space or higher. You get down to only 2 gigs of free space and then you start asking for trouble as more and more free space is used.
And with a laptop, you spill liquid on the keyboard and the whole laptop can be garbage. You spill liquid on a desktop keyboard and the most you would replace is the keyboard. Go shopping for spill proof beverage containers and religiously do not have open containers of liquid near your laptop. Plenty of laptops have been destroyed that way or leaving them on the floor until someone steps on them and trashes the screen.
External harddrive is mainly for backing up. And invest in anti-virus if on the internet. A free one is

If you can afford Adobe Suite then there is a paid edition of anti-virus that has a big fan club.

a fuller hard drive can POTENTIALLY make a computer slow, but doesn’t always have to be so. The reason a fuller hard drive runs slower is because of file fragmentation. Try running a disc defrag to help with that.
As for installing a program on an external hard drive, I personally don’t see how that will affect anything. In theory, they should work properly, but sometimes they won’t. that’s kind of a trial and error type deal. But as far as speed, that’s determined by processor and ram capabilities.
The speed depends on two things. One is how much RAM there is on your computer. RAM is used to run a program and how much memory the program takes depends on the standard programs running at the time plus whatever program you are trying to run. The second is the speed of the hard drive, how fast it spins. The 7200 are the fastest out without going to a solid state drive and they will be faster if they are USB 2.0 and your computer has USB 2.0 ports.
Adobe is a big resource hog so it doesn’t really matter where you put it, try uninstalling unnecessary start up and other running programs. Also throw in more RAM (DDR if your computer supports it) if you need more.
Using an external hard drive will in all likely hood slow down the computer. It’s have to be USB which has a maximum speed of like 100/Mbs! An internal hard drive is much much faster. Having the your hard drive bogged down with programs you don’t need will make it slower, if they are running in the background. You can check these by looking in the bottom right hand corner of your desktop with Windows. As long as you keep the programs there to a minimum, you shouldn’t have any problems!
