No. Limewire does not give you a virus. Like many tools that connect to the internet, Limewire can be used to download a virus. This is no different than downloading an infected file through your web browser or email client. Avoiding infected files on Limewire is very easy; those who download them do so through ignorance or laziness. Limewire includes the ability to look up files through an external service known as Bitzi, where people can report if files are legitimate, virus-free, and of good quality. If the file has only bad reviews, or has none at all, just don’t download it.

Yes, there is a possibility Limewire can give you viruses even with virus protection. The chances of getting a virus if you are casually downloading just music is small. Be careful on what you download. Update the definitions on your anti-virus so it can catch newer viruses. Don’t download videos on Limewire either. They usually contain viruses. Be careful on limewire.
i got quite a few viruses from limewire even with my virus protection. it used to shut my comp right down after a few mins of downloading. but i have frined who use it all the time with no viruses so just mae sure your virus protection is strong enough. id give it a try if i were you. if it screws up then delete it.
Limewire is not the issue, it is what you do with it. You should have seen all the questions in here since school has been out. Used to be 50 questions a day about proxys,, then when school got out, it was virus issues from using the p2p programs such as limewire, frostwire, and bearshare.

Limewire is not a virus.
You can download viruses with Limewire. They are usually very easy to spot (you will see lots of files with very similar files sizes).
Your anti-virus should protect you. Just be very careful before you open anything you download. A virus does not do anything until you launch it.

i had limewire and i scanned all the time. my computer crashed and i lost all my pictures. it also cost 180 $$ to get it fixed! dont risk it! trusttt me!
Limewire=viruses
Nothing bothers me more than people who tell you that LimeWire just GIVES you viruses. That is 100% false.
LimeWire does not GIVE you viruses, you TAKE them from it when you download files that are about 170 KB. Not one song that you’re ever going to download will be under 1,000 KB on LimeWire so just be smart and don’t download a virus instead of a song.
LimeWire, believe it or not, IS safe if you know how to use it. Almost anyone I talk to will say it is not because they decide to just download the first file they see.
so just be smart and dont download a virus please 🙂
