rootkit scanners can give many false positives
whenever u run an rootkit scan u should have no other antimalware scanners running and no browsers/messengers open…even then they can still throw off a false positive
if u have any questions concerning the results of the scan i would go on the rootkit forum and llok for an answer there or post a question w/ ur results
but to answer ur question any malware can slow or freeze ut computer…as can other things such as too many programs running, fragmenatation, etc
i would run ur scans in safe mode and c what comes up tat way
when does ur com freeze? is it at strtup? when u r on a certain program or doing something in particular
it is really hard to diagnose from here just as it is for u there
like a wrote above though is it hwen u r doing something in particular…..
did u check ur event viewer and c if it gives u any idea
did u open task manager and c if anyhting is running reall y high in cpu range
i will give u a few links for other rootkit scanners

edit
u may just have 2 much running
i willgive u a link for optimizing xp or vista
its a pdf download and a bit long but very comprehensive it will take a while to get thru it but it is well worth it so when u have a few free hours sit back w/ a beverage of ur choice and go thru it
