LOADS of reasons or adjust ur performance settings by r clicking on my computer and then click on performance make sure you leave the last tick box ticked or you lose ur windows xp theme and revert back to classic also try getting rid of desktop backround
Is the fan/vent blocked? If the machine overheats, it could cause the graphics card and/or processor to run slowly.
The "scrolling" down when closing window is a sign that your machine is being overpowered by the software. How old is the machine?
Anyway, make sure you have the most up to date AVG (8.x) – it’s an excellent program but one of the last 7.x series had caused some slowdowns. Once you have made sure you are 100% up to date, run a full check just to make sure. I would also recommend you download and install SpyBot – it’s the best program to make sure nothing is hooking into your registry. Any change will be alerted and you’ll have to answer YES or NO – don’t worry, if not technical – if you’re doing something you expect should cause changes, say yes. If you’re just browsing around and you get alerted, better second guess. SpyBot will ensure you don’t let anything on your system that shouldn’t be there. (http://www.spybot.com/en/index.html)
Windows Service Pack 3 has been reported to slow down machines – MS denies it but enough people are talking about it on the boards to believe there’s something going. Try downgrading to SP2 if you want.
Without knowing the age of your machine and the specs, I can’t be more specific but assuming you have a machine capable of keeping up with today’s software, these things should help.
Of course, if it’s been a while (say, 18 months) since you first ran this system, I’m a huge fan of wiping everything and starting with a clean Windows install. It’s AMAZING how much crap builds up in Windows that kills a machine over time.
