Sounds like your file associations are f***ed.
You should either use a tool called "File Helper" or get a proper registry cleaner like "Frontline Registry Cleaner" from http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/best_registry_cleaner_tools.html to sort out the file associations for you.
Dude! You have a virus. Every time you copy or download a file, it gets infected straight away.
To be precise, it is a worm.
I suggest you to use an anti-virus software, but you may need to format your system in order to fix the operating system’s problems. (After installing an anti-virus)
System Restore.
Restart the computer and then tap F8 rapidly then select system restore to: malwarebytes installed
you can download a fix for the .exe file association
vista
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html
xp
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
the fix will restore windows default settings for the file association. Read the instructions for how to use.
