There are many things that can contribute to a system slowing down. The first thing to do is do a disk cleanup, then defragment the hard drive. Check how many things are in the system tray, down by the clock and close what isn’t needed. Controlling what all starts up when you boot is the next thing to look at. Use task manager to see how many processes are running and what is taking the most CPU time. If you feel adventurous, download this utility and it will show you what all starts when you boot. You can disable or delete things that you don’t want or need.

Never save anything to your HD unless it’s a program. Always save to an external memory stick. But most people don’t. Try deleting cookies, temp files, defrag the HD. Or if you want pull your HD and turn it into an external, buy a fresh new HD and install windows if you have the disc and start fresh.
