Threatfire is an anti virus, that can be installed next to any other anti virus program on the same computer

This is a very good program, that completely runs in the background

Installing these programs
Here you have a couple of good programs to protect you agains viruse and spyware. All for free
Okay, sport… here we go… take notes… follow carefully… and we’ll have you back in the air in no time….
First of all… a good resident virus program….
click on the link that I am providing here…go to the website… locate… download… install… update… then run…. AVG 8 FREE…..
http://www.download.com/
Next… a major… trojan killing gorilla backup program…
click on the link that I have provided… go to the website… locate… download… install…update… then run…. A-squared Free….
http://www.emsisoft.com/
Last,,, but not least… a registry wizard cleanup artist…
Advanced Systems Care Free
etc etc etc etc
http://www.iobit.com/
Now…. once you have done those program installs and complete scans….
Two other very important things
Go to the start menu… all programs….accessories…. system tools…. defragment program …. then run the defrag program….
Now… click on… my computer… right click on C…. at the bottom of that context menu is a tab marked … properties…. left click on this
when the window comes up for…properties… there will be a tab called .. tools…. click on this…. when that window opens there will be an option that says….error checking… and a tab there that says… check now… left click this…. it brings up another window that gives you two items to give a check click to… check both of these boxes and then… the start…. That brings up a notice that your machine will have to be restarted for this option to run…. click on okay…. then… close all of these windows by clicking okay … then restart your machine…. the CHECK DISK SYSTEM will automatically run upon restart… and it will take some while to do…. but, it is completely aligning your machine to the operating systems core programing… a really good thing…. once it is done… your machine will just simply open as if it had only been restarted…. and. at this point, my friend… you are ready for smooth sailing indeed…..
The virus program should be updated regularly….like at least two or three times a week and run completely at least once a week
The A-squared… updates regularly and run it at least once a week
Advanced Systems… updates occasionally and it should be run at least once a week
The defrag program should be done at least every couple of weeks
and… the Check Disc should be done at least every month or two….
Hope this helps
Get that machine cleaned up and get going again !!
Now, don’t say I didn’t give you anything for Christmas !!

Without being rude and i see from another one of your questions you are over 50, i suggest getting one of your kids/nephew/niece in to set up your pc. They will know. It’s pretty much impossible to convey the "how to’s" of setting up the security and other stuff, just by reading an answer on here.especially to a real beginner. Your going to get yourself even more lost by doing so and really mess up the pc in the process. Please don’t take offence.
I think AVG is the best virus protection you can get and if a virus tries to come on it catches it as soon as it happens and heals it or puts it in the virus vault so it can cause no more harm to you. Please get a firewall too as it will stop hackers so they cannot get in.I know webroot is the best i have seen and they have a free one or you can get one for money.you really need all this as there are so many hackers and jerks making problems for us and they think it’s cute..
what you should have done before going to the net is….
1. setup the firewall.
2. setup that your browser dont allow pop-up.

I would recommend you use "System Restore" its in :
Program —> Accessory —> System tool.
go the the earliest date possible and do as I say.
I browse the net without using Anti Virus. But hei I’m 10 years + veteran so I know what I’m doing
Disregard the above posts (or you’ll be sorry). Go to http://spybot.com and download the program. It’s totally free and works great. Install it, run it. Immunize your computer when it finishes running. Run this program once or twice a month and you will be good to go. You also need some antivirus software. Norton is the best, McAfee is second best and there are three or four free ones that are pretty good out there. Make sure your Windows Firewall (in control panel) is turned on. Take care.
