Okay, so my Dell Dimension 9100 seems to be stuck at that Windows XP screen. It will NOT allow me to start in safe mode, and when I choose "start windows normally" or "last known configuration" nothing happens. I tried to start in safe mode countless times and one of those times, I got a blue screen with an error of "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" I ran the hard drive diagnostics which came back as "Fail – Return Code:7" on Drive 0 and of course I have no idea what that means. I haven’t installed any new software. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like theres no memory space
you need to reinstall the operating system
if that dosent work your hard drive is bad –60 bucks at wallmart
Sounds to me like a master boot record failure. Or something else is corrupted and what I am about to suggest won’t hurt. Take your original Windows XP cd and put it in the drive. Reboot the computer and boot from CD first instead of the hard drive, most system BIOSes allow you to set this.
Follow these instructions to restore the MBR:
Insert the XP or Windows 2000 installation CD in the CD-ROM drive and reboot the computer.
If the computer does not boot with the CD, then you will have to change the boot sequence in the PC’s BIOS setup so that the CD takes precedence over the hard disk.
While booting, the boot program on the CD detects any existing, bootable partitions on the hard disk, stops the boot process and only continues booting once a key has been pressed.
On the first screen of the Windows Setup program, select "R" and on the next screen, select "K" to run the Recovery Console.
Now, enter the following command
fixmbr
If, after re-starting, the hard disk is still not able to be booted, you can also re-create the boot sector in the first partition.
In order to do this, return to the Recovery Console and type in this command
fixboot c:
